Hathras Police Chief, Four Others Suspended For Mismanagement, SIT Suggests Narco Test

The special investigation team probing the case submitted its preliminary report, following which this action was taken.

Five policemen, including the Superintendent of Police, have been suspended in Uttar Pradesh's Hathras district amidst outrage over the gangrape and death of a 19-year-old Dalit woman. The SIT probing the case has also asked for Narco test of all the people involved in the incident, including the policemen and the deceased survivor's family

 As per reports, the woman's family has alleged that her relatives were locked in their houses and the cremation was carried out "forcibly". against their wishes. The woman's brother has further alleged that her body was taken away without their consent.

An initial report by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the incident called for their suspension over allegations of mismanagement of the case. Subsequently, Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath has suspended the district's Police Superintendent Vikrant Vir, Commanding officer Ram Shabd, Inspector Dinesh Kumar Verma, Sub Inspector Jagveer Singh, and Head Constable Mahesh Pal based on the preliminary report submitted by the SIT, reported Republic World.

As per an NDTV report, the team has also asked for a narco-analysis test for all those involved in the case including the arrested suspects and the family of the woman. Narco-analysis is commonly known as the lie-detector test. Following this, Former DGP, Vikram Singh said that he never heard anything as preposterous as this on the suggestion of narco test for the girl’s family.

Hathras gangrape and murder

Reportedly, the Dalit woman was gangraped by four upper-caste men. She suffered spinal injuries, paralysis, and cuts in her tongue (from biting on it). The rape survivor died in a hospital two weeks after the incident.

However, Prashant Kumar, Uttar Pradesh ADG (Additional Director General of Police) for law and order, claimed in a public statement that there was no incident of rape, referring to her autopsy report. He said that no traces of sperm were found in her private parts and she died due to neck injuries. You can read more from here. However, a news channel later released a video interview of the deceased survivor in which she attested that she had been raped.

The National Human Right Commission said via a press release on its website on September 30, “The DGP ( Director General Police) of Uttar Pradesh is expected to look personally into the matter to ensure a speedy trial so that the culprits could be punished by the competent court without any further delay.”
