Cybercrime is drastically increasing. Several are using social media platforms for the wrong reasons. Establishing a fake profile, bluffing, and luring women have increased cyber crime against women. Stalking and harassing have been prevalent, but now using it for rape has taken a new low. In a recent incident, a 24-year-old Bhojpuri Artist was allegedly raped in a Gurugram Hotel by an Instagram friend on the pretext of an interview.
The accused, along with his friends threatened to kill and leak her personal videos. Currently, Bhojpuri artist resides in Delhi and has a great following on the internet. As per the Police, the artist came in contact with a person named Mahesh Pandey through Instagram a few days back. Pandey offered her work in the films and asked to come for an interview on 29 June at a hotel in the Udyog Vihar area in Gurugram.

The complainant narrated to the police that the accused already booked a room when she reached the hotel. He took her to the room, asking a few questions. He started the intake of alcohol, and when she wanted to leave, he forced himself on her and raped her. Later threatened to kill her. The accused's friends called to blackmail her for leaking videos online.
The FIR registered states that the accused is a resident of the Karpura area of Gurugram. He has been charged with rape under section 376, criminal intimidation under section 506, and common intention under section 34 at Udyog Vihar Police Station on Wednesday.
Not a single day passes by when a crime against women is not committed. Every day there is news of women raped, harassed, assaulted, and killed. Be it a public place, an online platform, or their own home, nowhere women are safe. Be it a stranger or someone they know, women are subjected to dangerous environments.
