Greta Thunberg Charged By Sweden Police For Disobeying Orders

Young environment activist Greta Thunberg has been charged by Swedish police for refusing to exit the climate protests she was instructed to leave.

The Swedish police have charged Climate activist Greta Thunberg for not following official orders after she participated in a climate protest. The police are charging Thunberg for refusing to leave the scene of the protest and hence disobeying police instructions.

20-year-old Thunberg is known worldwide for her initiatives in spreading awareness around climate change. She has been passionate about bringing a change in climate since the very young age of 15 years, and since then, she has been making news and also getting criticism, mainly for her young age. 

Greta Thunberg Charged By Swedish Police:

Climate activist Greta Thunberg participated protest organised by the environmentalist group Ta Tillbaka Framtiden (Reclaim the Future) to protest the use of fossil fuels. Thunberg participated in the disruption of the shipping in the harbour by successfully blocking the oil tankers from shipping. 

Thunberg earlier shared about the protest on her Twitter handle by posting a selfie with the board that read "Jag Blockerar Tankbilar" (I am blocking tankers) while standing in front of the tanker.

The charges hence steamed from the protest in Mamlo, an oil port in Sweden where the activists have been protesting for several days against the use of fossil fuels.

Thunberg on Instagram actively wrote about the protest, that they didn't choose to be bystanders and that they would physically stop the infrastructure of fossil fuel. She claimed that they are "Reclaiming the Future."

The Swedish Prosecutors informed that they would be charging a "young woman" for refusing to obey police orders to leave the site of protest and not block the traffic and oil tankers. 

A spokesperson of the young activist also confirmed the news of Thunberg getting charged. The charges can lead to mostly six months of imprisonment, but a Swedish prosecutor named told Swedish media that the charges mostly end with fines.

A hearing in Mamlo district court has been set for the end of July, and Thunberg is expected to appear at the hearing. The young activist has been the face of climate movements of youth, "Fridays For Future", leading to "school Strikes" at the young age of 15 in the Swedish Parliament which gained popularity to become a global phenomenon. 

Thunberg is known to chastise governments and politicians for not addressing climate issues seriously and gained popularity and recognition for being aware of climate issues and working as an environmentalist since the young age of 15.
