Rinky Chakma, who held the title of Miss India Tripura 2017, died at 28 years old on February 29 after a long battle with cancer. The model was diagnosed with breast cancer two years ago, which metastasized into her lungs and then her brain. Despite surgeries, she battled the deadly disease for over two years. Chakma had opened up about her health last month in an Instagram post. She detailed the difficult journey and also said that her family was open to donations for her treatment.

Femina Miss India shared the news of her death on Instagram, expressing, "Our heartfelt condolences go out to her family and friends during this difficult time. May her soul find eternal peace. Rinky, your legacy of purpose and beauty will forever be remembered. You will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing you."

Rinky Chakma's Cancer Battle

In an Instagram post last month, Miss India Tripura 2017 'Beauty With A Purpose' Rinky Chakma opened up about her cancer diagnosis for the first time in her two-year struggle. She said she had been struggling alone for quite a while and wanted to heal by herself before she told anyone. She said that she was diagnosed with phyllodes tumour, which is breast cancer.

After her first surgery, the cancer spread to her lungs and brain, Chakma said in the post, adding that she would soon undergo surgery. "My brain surgery is still pending as it's already widespread all my right side of my body till my lungs and it will only be possible if I heal with chemotherapy first with just 30% hope," she revealed.

She further disclosed her family's situation through her health conditions. "I just wanted to let everyone know that me and my family is going through a rough time and the last 2 years have also not been easy with regular hospital stays and visits,” she said. “I thought letting everyone know what I am going through would also make me feel better."

Chakma added that her family had been facing financial troubles due to her expensive treatment, adding that they were seeking donations. She also sought prayers for her betterment. The model had been admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi.
