They say love transcends the boundaries of time. In a heartwarming tale, two lonely souls residing in an old age home discover their forever in each other. On January 24, 2025, 65-year-old Jayaprabha Bora and 71-year-old Padmeswar Goala celebrated their union. Due to family responsibilities, Jayaprabha Bora never married after she entered adulthood. After the demise of her two brothers, she shifted to the Beltola home (South Guwahati) from Tezpur in January 2024.
In an in-house event in March 2024, Bora met Goala who sang a medley of Bihu and Hindi film songs. She found herself attracted to Goala's voice and they discovered that they liked spending time with each other. A few days later, they decided to tie the knot.
Padmeswar Goala from Bokakhat in eastern Assam’s Golaghat district, spent much of his life working as a domestic help. He never married after a girl he dated more than 5 decades ago, walked out of his life.
The Beginning Of A Forever
Utpal Harshavardhan, the secretary of the old age home, stated:
“When word spread that the two wanted to get married, people donated in cash and kind. The crowdfunding helped us prepare for the traditional wedding. About 4,000 guests turned up for the marriage. Each was treated to a sumptuous meal”
A few days before her marriage, Bora was shifted to Matri Niwas in the city’s Mathgharia area. Also, an elderly home, Matri Niwas is about 8 km from the Beltola home — both run by Monalisha Society, an NGO.
Bora sported a mekhela sador while Goala arrived in dhoti kurta. The ritualistic marriage took more than an hour to be completed. Their union marked a new beginning for them. Their happiness was evident in their smiles during the rituals.
Harshavardhan stated that a room has been provided for the couple at the old age home to spend the rest of their lives together.
