The President of India travelled to London on September 17 and offered condolences on behalf of the Indian government. Murmu signed the condolence book for Queen Elizabeth II at the Lancaster House in London.

Murmu also paid respects and offered tributes to Queen Elizabeth II at Westminster Hall where the Queen’s coffin is lying-in-state. The official Twitter account of the Rashtrapati Bhavan tweeted, “The President offered tributes to the departed soul on her own behalf on behalf of the people of India.”

A video of Murmu paying her tribute to the Queen was also shared and showed the President of India bowing her head in respect.

Droupadi Murmu Meets King Charles III

The official account of the President of India also shared a photograph of Droupadi Murmu meeting King Charles III at the reception he hosted at Buckingham Palace.

Murmu is currently on an official tour of the United Kingdom to attend the State Funeral of Queen Elizabeth II and arrived on Saturday, September 17. She will attend the state funeral service and then attend the reception hosted by James Cleverly, United Kingdom’s Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs.

Queen Elizabeth II’s coffin is lying in state in Westminster Hall, draped in her Royal Standard and capped with a diamond-studded crown. After the service, the late Queen’s coffin will be transported through London on a horse-drawn carriage and taken in a hearse to Windsor. The late Queen will be interred at Windsor, alongside her late husband Prince Philip who passed away in 2021.

The Queen passed away on September 8 at the age of 96. A one-day state mourning was observed across India on September 11 to pay respects to the late Queen.

Political leaders and royals from around the world flew to London to attend Queen Elizabeth II’s state funeral. President Droupadi Murmu, United States of America President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden, Candian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Japanese Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako, and Ukraine’s First Lady Olena Zelenska are among the representatives.
