Things on the ground are heating up as Assembly Elections in Uttar Pradesh are near its schedule. During elections season, it is usual to see politicians shift their alliance and loyalty from one party to another for varied reasons like power or the constituency given.

In this case, former Congress leaders Dr Priyanka Maurya and former Samajwadi Party's Member of Legislative Assembly Pramod Gupta have joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which is currently the ruling party-led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The elections in the state are scheduled to be held from February 10 to March 10 2022.

Recently, Dr Maurya had alleged that the process of ticket distribution in the Congress party was rigged. She is the face of the party's poster "Ladki Hoon Lad Sakti Hoon" campaign. She alleged that the party used her name and Rs 10 lakh for social media campaign without giving her a seat.

"This is injustice. It is all pre-decided. I did not get the ticket because I am an OBC (Other Backward Classes) girl and could not bribe Priyanka Gandhi's secretary Sandeep Singh," she alleged. The Congress party has released the first list of candidates amounting to 125 names for the Uttar Pradesh elections.

Dr Maurya wished to contest elections from Sarojini Nagar in Lucknow. However, the seat was given to Rudra Daman Singh. She told ANI, "I'm sad that despite my hard work in the constituency, I didn't get the ticket for UP assembly polls. My face was used in 'Ladki Hoon Lad Sakti Hoon (I am a girl and I can fight)' campaign. I received a landline call & caller asked me for money for ticket but I was denied."

According to the Mid-Day report, Dr Maurya had visited the Congress headquarters yesterday which had triggered rumours about her joining BJP.
