Delhi government had asked the centre to recognise journalists as frontline workers

The Delhi government had earlier asked the centre to recognise all media employees as frontline workers.

The announcement was made by Delhi's chief minister Arvind Kejriwal at 4:30 pm on May 7. He had a meeting with his cabinet ministers and had a discussion regarding the deteriorating COVID-19 situation in the capital city. Thousands of people have already died in the past few weeks in Delhi.

The meeting was attended by the Deputy Chief Minister, Health Minister, Health Secretary and District Magistrates of all districts.

Arvind Kejriwal directed all the officers to ensure that there should be no shortage of beds. He also said that no lives should be lost due to oxygen shortage and that the COVID-19 vaccination drive should be completed in three months.

This means that about 2 journalists have died every day in April itself.

The study also found that 56 journalists had already succumbed to the virus in the last four months, i. e, from 1 January to 28 April 2021.

Meanwhile, the health ministry has revealed that Delhi has so far administered 36,87,783 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, out of which 28,77,331 were first doses and 8,10,452 were second.
