The player had gained the top ranking in 2012 for the first time. On Sunday she regained that position after she won gold medals in three categories of the World Cup. One is women's individual, mixed team and another in women's team.

World Archery tweeted on its official handle on Sunday, " This is going to take Deepika to the number spot in the world rankings on Monday."

Deepika Kumari archery player, Ankita Bhakat and Komalika Bari defeated the Mexico team in women's recurve and won a gold medal for the team. After that, she won another one with her husband and archery player Atanu Das after they defeated Sjef van den Berg and Gabirla Schoesser of Netherland by 5-3.

The 27-year-old player later played against Elena Osipova of Russia and won by 6-0 to bag the gold. This was her fourth individual gold medal in World Cup. Kumari so far has won a total of nine gold medals including seven bronze and 12 silver medals at the World Cup.

Expressing her delight over the triumphs, Deepika Kumari said, "This is the first time I've won all three medals in a World Cup. I'm really happy but at the same time, I've to continue improving as we have some very, very important competitions lined up." After Dola Banerjee, Deepika Kumari is the second Indian woman who achieved the World number one spot on June 12. She had won her first individual recurve World Cup gold medal in Turkey.

In Tokyo Olympics 2020, scheduled to be held next month, Deepika Kumari will be the woman archer representing India.

Her mother Geeta Devi talked about her daughter's victory and said, "Now, we have two players (Atanu Das and Deepika Kumari) in the family. They feel more confident while playing together. They will definitely win a medal in Tokyo Olympics. Coaches and Arjun Munda helped her from the beginning to become a better player."
