On February 26, 2021 the government stated that it will allow people to choose their vaccination centres when the campaign expands on February 27 to cover citizens over 60 years of age and those over 45 years of age with illnesses. Those over 60 will only need to show identification with age, while those over 45 with chronic illnesses will have to get a form signed by a registered medical practicioner.

People can register through the government’s CoWIN 2.0 portal, the Aarogya Setu app, or by walking into vaccination centres. States will also actively mobilise people. More than 10,00 private hospitals are cleared to give out vaccines. Vaccinations were halted this weekend to upgrade software required to coordinate the campaign. The campaign aims to widen the coverage beyond the 1.15 crore health and front-line workers immunized since January 16.

Officials believe that allowing people to choose centres, effectively allowing them to choose coronavirus vaccines can speed up the roll-out. India aims to vaccinate 30 crore people out of its population of 135 crore people by August. Bharat Biotech stated that data from a late-stage trial on nearly 26,000 volunteers who took the COVAXIN shot will be out soon. Based on early and intermediate studies, COVAXIN is safe and effective.
