Two Men In Uniform Molested A Woman At Saltlake, Chargesheet By Police Filed

A 25-year-old woman from Asansol was allegedly molested by two men in uniform on December 11 night in Kolkata. Now a chargesheet In Salt Lake molestation has been filed. The Bidhannagar police have submitted a charge sheet in the case and against the accused people, who have been kept in judicial custody till January 3, 2022.

The survivor was allegedly molested by a civic police volunteer in uniform Avishek Malakar and Assistant Sup-Inspector of Bidhannagar traffic department Sandip Pal. The duo had offered the woman a lift on a bike and made her sit in between the rider and the second accused. During the entire span of the ride, she was molested by the duo on a moving bike.

Malakar was dismissed from his job after the incident was reported, while Pal has been suspended for an indefinite period. Both have been kept in judicial custody till January 3, 2022.

A senior officer of Bidhannagar Commissionerate recently said, "We have treated this case with utmost importance and submitted the charges sheet in less than 15 days. We will now plead for a custody trial of the accused."

According to the investigating officer, the woman was waiting outside the bus stand for a cab to reach her friend's place in Garfa. However, due to odd timing, there was no cab available. Then the accused persons approached her and offered her a lift to Ultadanga, which is 15-20 minutes away. The woman trusted the men in uniform and took the offer.

But she was made to sit in the middle and was allegedly touched inappropriately for the entire ride. The survivor got off at Mani Square at EM Bypass and took a cab to her friend's place. Later, a complaint was registered by her at the Kasba police station but since the perpetrators were from Bidhannager police station, the case was transferred to them. A senior woman additional commissioner of police has been investigating the case and submitted all the evidence is related to the crime, which included CCTV footage and the reconstruction of the night when the incident transpired.

Both the accused have been charged under sections 354 (outraging the modesty of a woman) and 34 (common intent) of the Indian Penal Code.
