Bulandshahr Woman Dies By Suicide Three Weeks After Lodging A Rape Complaint: Report

The deceased woman's father claims that no action was taken against the accused men by the police.

A woman reportedly died by suicide three weeks after she filed a complaint against three men on charges of rape in Bulandshahr district of Uttar Pradesh on Monday.

According to a news report by Hindustan Times, the woman lodged a complaint at Anoopshahar police station against one of her neighbours and two other men related to him on October 3, alleging that they were threatening to kidnap and kill her. However, she later withdrew the statement, saying that she had lodged the complaint under her family's pressure.

On October 24, she again approached the local police and accused the three men identified as Kamruddin, Abrar and Mubin of raping her. According to her statement, the neighbour called the 19-year-old on her mobile phone and asked her to meet him on October 16. The accused, his friend and his uncle then allegedly raped her in Aligarh’s Charra, said Bulandshahar senior superintendent of police (SSP) SK Singh.

No action was taken against the accused: Father of deceased

However, while investigating the police scanned the accused’s mobile records, and found that no call was made by the accused to the complainant on the said date. Moreover, the accused's mobile location couldn't be traced back to the scene of crime at the said time as per an investigating officer. The location of the accused Kamruddin was found to be Faridabad in Haryana, while that of Abrar and Mubin was Aligarh when the crime had occurred as per the deceased woman's allegations.

The woman’s father has accused Bulandshahr police of dereliction of duty. He said, “On October 16, the accused called her to tender apology in person but he raped her with two other men. We lodged a complaint on October 24 but no action was taken against them.

The 19-year-old raised questions about the case's investigation in her suicide note. Following this, Singh suspended the investigating officer and ordered an inquiry against an inspector and circle officer of Anoopshahar police station. The body of the deceased has been sent for post mortem examination.
