The treatment of the LGBTQA+ community in India has seen a significant change over the past few years. Recently, many people have accepted being queer and having homosexual relationships publicly. A woman in Bihar, however, shocked her village by having a girlfriend.

Society's attitude has not been very accepting towards queer relationships. They are constantly subjected to abuse and harassment, also the reason why they remain closeted. However, that does not mean that LGBTQA+ couples should stay hidden or feel ashamed of their identity. That is what a young married woman from Bihar did, she accepted her sexual preferences and eloped with a female friend to start a life. However, her timing was bad as she realised it just a few months after her marriage.

This particular news shocked the extended family of the woman. The woman belonging to Bihar's Jamui town reportedly went missing a few days back, making her family worried. When the husband could not get a hold of her whereabouts, he filed a missing police case. After much searching, the police spotted her in Dhanbad and an investigation revealed that she was living with a female friend, also a lover.

Mubarakpur Neema village's Karishma Kumari and Guguldih village's Rambali Turi Aditya Megha met each other two years ago in Dhanbad. The girls studied in the same computer class and that's where they became friends and eventually fell in love with each other. Their fathers also resided in Dhanbad and they met often. However, in February 2023, one of them got married to a man in Jamui, separating them from each other. This seems a sad story, or the unfortunate fate of small-town queer love stories.

In June, when the girl got a chance to elope, she left her husband's home and started living with her girlfriend until the police found them. On finding out that the two girls were living together, the families tried to separate them but they did not let that happen. The police eventually brought them to Jamui and the entire village was shocked to know about their affair. The incident has so many layers including infidelity and failed queer love story.

It happens in many cases that people cannot accept their identity or relationships before their families and it is only when they are married off to someone else that they realise that they love someone else. Infidelity is not something to be excused of but LGBTQA+ relationships are more complicated.
