The recent upsurge in rape cases within the state of Uttar Pradesh has unleashed a harsh reality, exposing the distressing and perilous conditions faced by women.

These deeply unsettling incidents serve as a piercing wake-up call, illuminating the urgent need for decisive action to ensure the safety and well-being of women in our society.

Here are five UP rape cases that emerged in June:

Teen Girl Dies After Being Raped

On June 22, during a wedding in a village in Fatehpur, a 17-year-old girl went missing from the wedding hall around 11 p.m., as reported by her father. Desperate attempts were made by her relatives to locate her, and eventually, her father approached the police to file a missing persons complaint. The following day, on June 23, the girl was discovered in a bleeding state in an under-construction house near the wedding venue. Hospitalised for her injuries, the girl fought for three days but tragically succumbed to her wounds on Monday.

In response to the girl's untimely demise, her relatives and members of the Vishva Hindu Parishad demanded the demolition of the accused's house. Consequently, the house belonging to the man accused of raping and murdering the girl was razed by a bulldozer on June 26. The police have apprehended one of the four individuals involved in the incident, according to their statement

Rape Attempt Survivor Ends Life After Being Mocked By Accused

In the Barabanki district of Uttar Pradesh, a 16-year-old Dalit girl was found hanging in her house following her complaint about a rape attempt. Her family blamed the delay in arresting the accused and the accused's mockery for her decision to take her own life. The local authorities initiated an investigation into the incident. The girl's case highlights the urgent need to address the issue of delayed justice and provide support to survivors of sexual assault.

The girl's mother discovered the girl's body on Thursday, June 15, and promptly informed the village head, who then contacted the police. An FIR was filed at Haidergarh police station on June 17 based on the girl's complaint. The authorities conducted a thorough investigation to ascertain the circumstances that led to this tragic outcome and to bring the perpetrators to justice. This incident underscores the importance of prompt action and support for survivors in order to prevent such heartbreaking incidents in the future.

Teen Girl Dies After Gangrape in UP’s Basti

The incident occurred on June 5, when the young girl left her home to purchase vegetables. She was forcefully abducted, subjected to sexual assault, and tragically lost her life. The perpetrators callously abandoned her body in an isolated location.

The tragedy struck in Basti district as a 13-year-old girl fell victim to a horrifying gangrape allegedly committed by three individuals, including a juvenile. Shockingly, the family of the victim has accused one of the accused perpetrators of being a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader.

Man Rapes Special Needs Minor Girl,

In Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, a man has been accused of committing multiple rapes on a special-needs minor in his neighbourhood, as reported on June 8. After each incident, as per the complaint filed by the survivor's family, the assailant would trespass onto their terrace and physically assault and rape the minor girl.

Shockingly, he would leave money behind as a disturbing aftermath, leaving a 50-rupee note on one occasion and giving her Rs 20 the following day.

The disheartening frequency of these heinous crimes demands a resolute examination of prevailing norms and a robust evaluation of existing systems to effectively protect and empower women.
