Famous folk singer Kalpana Patowary on Friday joined Asom Gana Parishad (AGP). She joined the party in the presence of ministers Keshav Mahanta and Phani Bhushan Choudhury and party president Atul Bora, among others.
Patowary declared she joined AGP as she wanted to work for Assam. According to her, as an Assamese, she has a responsibility towards working for the implementation of the various clauses of the Assam Accord. Moreover, she added that she is committed to her motherland, according to a report by NDTV.

Kalpana Patowary has also been appointed as the brand ambassador of the party ahead of the Assam Assembly elections due next week. Interestingly, Patowary joined BJP in 2018 in Patna, in the presence of then BJP President Amit Shah ahead of the Lok Sabha elections
Who is Kalpana Patowary
Kalpana Patowary is a famous playback and folk singer. She was also a participant in the reality show Junoon - Kuchh Kar Dikhaane Ka (2008) on NDTV Imagine. Patowary is an alumna of decorated Cotton College of Guwahati. Moreover, she is the first woman to record and sing in the Chhaprahiya Purvi style. Before her stint into the Chhaprahiya Purvi style, it was only a male preserve.
Patowary has sung various Bollywood songs also. Some of her Bollywood songs are- Aila Re Aila from Khatta Meetha, O Re Kaharo from Begum Jaan, Uncha Lamba Kad from Welcome, and many more. Not only this, but she has also sung in various Assamese, Bengali, Marathi and Tamil films. She is well known for various hit Bhojpuri songs- Jug Jug Jiya A Raja, Ghar Ke Laxmi and she has sung various Chatt Puja songs which many might have heard around the five day festivity that begins after Diwali.
