EC on Mamata injury: The Election Commission (EC) has called a report by the West Bengal government on the 'attack' against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee "sketchy." Officials said Saturday that chief secretary Alapan Bandyopadhyay has been asked to elaborate on the details of the report.

"The report submitted by the West Bengal government appeared to be quite sketchy and without any details of the incident like how it happened or who could be behind it. We have asked the state administration to furnish more details," PTI quoted a poll official saying.

A six-member delegation from the Trinamool Congress (TMC) had visited Delhi on Friday to submit a report on the alleged attack against Banerjee in Nandigram on Wednesday, which had led to her sustaining multiple injuries. The TMC report claimed Banerjee was pushed by "a huge crowd" and demanded a high-level probe into the matter.

EC On Mamata Injury Probes For More Details

Bengal government leaders have named the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) behind the incident, saying that it was part of a "deep-rooted conspiracy" for an attempt on the TMC supremo's life.

The party also charged the EC earlier this week for the lack of law and order in the run-up to the assembly elections, by pointing out that the 'attack' against Banerjee occurred within 24 hours of the DGP being transferred by the ECI “at the behest of the BJP.” More here.

The EC had hit back saying the TMC letter was "full of insinuations" and questioned the "very foundation and fabric of the Constitution of India." The body has now requested the Bengal government for more details on the Nandigram incident.
