Bangle-Seller Beaten Up By Mob, Gets Accused Of Molesting Minor Girls: Report

Bangle-Seller Booked: A 25-year-old bangle-seller, Tasleem Ali was arrested and then accused of harassing minor gilrs on the pretext of selling bangles on the occasion of Rakhi in an Indore locality.

Here's what we know of the case: 

  • He was reportedly beaten up on Sunday for the alleged harassment. He was also warned by the mob not to set foot in the "Hindu kshetra (area)" again. Three men were arrested for allegedly beating him up.
  • One of the three accused man's daughter, who is a minor, had accused Tasleem Ali of harassment. The complainant said in her statement, "We began purchasing bangles from him. As my mother went inside to fetch money, the bangle-seller looked at me in an indecent way and grabbed my hand, saying ‘I’ll help you wear bangles’. He also inappropriately touched my cheeks… which is when I shouted." She claimed that when she screamed, Ali threatened to kill her and flee.
  • Ali was booked on Monday evening. He was charged under IPC Sections 354 (assault or criminal force on a woman), 354-A (sexual harassment), 467, 468, 471 (forgery), 420 (cheating) and 506 (criminal intimidation), along with under POCSO.
  • A Muslim organisation protested after the alleged beating of Ali and demanded the arrest of the accused persons. The organisation also protested for the delay in lodging the FIR.
  • After this protest, Home Minister Narottam Mishra disclosed the crucial facts of the case found by the police in their investigation so far. Mishra said that Tasleem Ali was found with two Aadhar cards on him. He was also found selling bangles using a Hindu name even though he was from a different religion.
  • Tasleem Ali accused the minor girl's father along with others of breaking his cellphone and taking away cash of Rs 10,000 and bangles worth Rs 25,000 from him. The police recovered the material after the arrest.
