Sexual assault on minor girl: A man accused of sexually assaulting a minor girl had fled from the hospital where he was receiving COVID-19 treatment. He was arrested in Delhi on Wednesday.
A 27-year-old man was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor girl in northwest Delhi’s Shalimar Bagh area. He is identified as Salim Ahmed and belongs to Uttar Pradesh.
On Sunday, when a 9-year-old stepped out to buy something, Ahmed offered her to buy clothes and took her with him. He then allegedly sexually assaulted her, according to a police report.
The minor girl told her parents of the incident but refused to tell anything to the Police or the counsellor. A medical examination of the girl confirmed sexual assault.
Usha Rangnani, a police official said in a statement, “We scanned the footage of around 300 to 350 CCTV cameras to identify the route through which the accused took the girl with him. Local intelligence was also activated and Ahmed was arrested on Tuesday from Wazirpur area.”
Rangnani who is the Deputy Commissioner of Police (northwest) said that it was a blind case as the survivor did not know the accused.
He has been accused under sections 363 (punishment for kidnapping), 376 (punishment for rape) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), according to a police official. The man is also accused under the POSCO act as sexual harassment survivor is a minor, said an official.
During the interrogation, the accused man said in his statement that he took the girl to a shanty place near the railway line where he sexually assaulted her. He added that he was tested positive for COVID-19 and was receiving treatment for the same in UP from where he escaped to Delhi. Ahmed works as a sweeper in factories, according to reports.
Another case for escaping the hospital was filed against Ahmed under Section 224 (resistance or obstruction by a person to his lawful apprehension) of the IPC.
