Meet The Youngest Teen To Cover North Pole, South Pole & Greenland

Irked by gender roles that society imposed on her, an Australian teenager decided to ski to complete a 600 km trek to the North Pole, the South Pole and Greenland. Jade Hameister has become the youngest person to accomplish the feat.

What irked her?

She was delivering a TEDx talk a few years ago on why girls must reach for their dreams. After the video got posted on YouTube, Jade received nasty comments demeaning her like "Make me a sandwich".

Her response

On accomplishing what she wanted to, she posted a photo of her holding a plate with a ham and cheese sandwich. "I made you a sandwich (ham & cheese)," she wrote. "Now ski 37 days and 600 km to the South Pole and you can eat it."

Her father, her guide Eric Philips and a two-person camera team from National Geographic accompanied her on the 37-day journey. The National Geographic will release a documentary about the experience later this year.

That year, Jade traversed 62 miles from 88 degrees to the North Pole, breaking the record for the youngest person to cross the distance from outside the last degree. Thirteen months later, she made history as the youngest woman to ski unassisted across the Greenland icecap.

Interestingly, Jade is also the first woman to travel a new route through the Kansas Glacier off the coast of Antarctica.

The girl and her befitting reply to her trolls is worth appreciating.
