The verdict was given by the court in Naypyitaw, the capital city. It was conveyed to the news media by a legal official who insisted on anonymity as authorities have reportedly restricted the release of information about Suu Kyi's trials.

According to the official, she had been sentenced to two years under the Export-Import Law for importing walkie-talkies. In addition, she has been sentenced to one more year for possessing them. She was also sentenced to two years for violating coronavirus rules while campaigning, this verdict was made under the Natural Disaster Management Law.

Recently, after extending Suu Kyi's sentence several times, a Myanmar military court sentenced Suu Kyi to seven additional years in prison, increasing her overall jail time to 33 years.

In 2020, Suu Kyi's political party National League For Democracy won the general elections but the military alleged electoral fraud and took over through a coup. Suu Kyi was detained and so were other members of the party.

The walkie-talkie charges were made immediately after the takeover and used as a justification for her arrest. The radios were seized from her residence and the barracks of her bodyguards on February 1 and the same day she was arrested.

However, Suu Kyi's lawyers have argued that the radios were not under her personal possession and were legally used for her security. The court declined to dismiss the charges on this argument.

The expelled leader is already facing 11 charges, which has been denied by her. Dr Sasa (Salai Maung Taing San), the spokesperson for the newly formed National Unity Government said that she is not okay and is looking at 104 years of imprisonment. "They (the military generals) wan her to die in prison," Dr Sasa said. Read more about it here.
