Arya Rajendran, the youngest mayor in India, is all set to get married to KM Sachin Dev. He is the youngest MLA in the current Kerala Assembly. Both of them belong to the CPI(M). Arya became Thiruvananthapuram's mayor in December 2020 when she took charge of the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation in Kerala.
“We both belong to a similar political ideology and we have worked alongside each other in the SFI. We have been good friends. We arrived at the decision and then informed our families. Since both of us are elected public representatives, we informed the party as well as our families to ensure there are no rumours or misinformation,” Arya told reporters on Wednesday. For the unversed, SFI is the students’ wing of the CPI(M).
Arya also said that they haven't finalised the wedding date yet. Both the families as well as the party will be consulted before agreeing on a date.
Rajendran hails from a family that allegedly identifies as long-time supporters of the Communist Party of India (Marxist). She was a B.Sc Maths student when she became the mayor.
Arya Rajendran became a CPM associate when she joined the party’s children’s collective Baalasangham in class 5. The youngest mayor completed her schooling from Carmel Girls’ Higher Secondary School. She is currently studying at the all-women All Saints College.
Who is KM Sachin Dev ?
- Dev is the state secretary of the SFI, the students’ wing of the CPI(M)
- He was elected from Balussery (SC) constituency on a CPM ticket in the 2021 Assembly elections by a margin of over 20,000 votes.
- He pursued a degree in English from the Government Arts and Science College, Kozhikode. Post that, he pursued a law degree from the Government Law College in Kozhikode.
- He was also the student union chairman of the Government Arts and Science College.
