Apple To Collaborate With Oprah Winfrey For Their Streaming Service

Oprah Winfrey has signed a deal with Apple to produce original content for their streaming service. Last year, after Apple had announced its plans to invest in original video programming it had been on a talent hunt. The company is looking forward to competing with brands like Netflix, Amazon and Hulu.

In a statement released by Apple, the company said, that Winfrey will “create original programs that embrace her incomparable ability to connect with audiences around the world," reported The Lily.

“The Oprah Winfrey Show” star was among the first celebrities to lead an entire cable network. Her show went on to become the highest-rated television program of its kind in history. Soon after that she was known as the "Queen Of All Media" and became one of the richest African-American of the 20th century. She is still ranked as one of the most  influential women in the world.

Although, it is unclear whether the famous  producer and philanthropist will herself appear in the shows or not.

The Academy Award nominee will continue to head the channel, OWN as the CEO. According to its contract, she can be seen in on other platforms on a limited basis.

The competitors

Netflix has announced that it will spend about $8bn on programming this year. It has also got a long-term deal with Barack and Michelle Obama to produce films, documentaries and other content reported The Guardian.

 On the other hand, Amazon has bought the global television rights to The Lord of the Rings. They are set to produce a multi-season series exploring new storylines. The company has also announced a partnership with Oscar-winning actor Nicole Kidman’s production company for movies and television.

According to a few reports, Apple is also collaborating with Steven Spielberg for a revival of his “Amazing Stories” series. The platform on which the programmes will air is yet to be confirmed.  Apple is expected to begin streaming the content next year.
