On Monday, Instagram photos 22-year-old Tanmay shared of himself receiving the vaccine went viral and drew wide backlash, with several opposition leaders and social media users demanding an explanation for his inoculation.

At present, only citizens above the age of 45 are allowed vaccine jabs. Vaccination for persons 18 and above will begin May 1. Details here.

Tanmay, as per Times of India, shared social media photos of his second vaccine jab from the National Cancer Institute, Nagpur. After immense trolling and criticism, the photos now stand deleted.

In the aftermath of the backlash over the 22-year-old getting vaccinated, Devendra Fadnavis told The Indian Express Monday night, "My wife and daughter have also not received vaccination because they don’t qualify for it. I am of the firm opinion that everybody must follow the rules."

"Tanmay Fadnavis is my distant relative. I have no idea under which criteria he received his dose. If it has been taken as per guidelines, then there should be no objection. But if it is in violation of guidelines, it is completely improper," he added.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader's nephew hasn't issued a clarification on the controversy yet.
