Crime Against Women: In the last 24 hours, gruesome crime against women cases grabbed headlines. From alleged rape cases to murders for not speaking up on sexual assault, the number of cases of crime against women keep rising despite the government making tall claims of increasing women safety measures.

Here are five shocking cases of crime against women in the past 24 hours:

Teenage girl raped by lover's friend in Kalyanpur, Lucknow

The incident took place on January 15, when the teenage girl was allegedly raped by her lover's friend under the pretext of marriage. The First Information Report (FIR) in the case was lodged on January 16, Sunday. The survivor's lover had allegedly introduced her to his friend, Rajat Kumar. The accused promised to marry the survivor but on January 15 barged into her house and allegedly raped her. According to DCP West BBFTS Murti of the Kalyanpur police station, the accused has been arrested and sent to jail.

Elderly woman murdered in Mulloor, Kerala

Three people, including a mother and son, have been arrested for allegedly murdering an elderly woman and stealing her ornaments at Mulloor. The accused duo had in 2020 also killed a girl to prevent her from revealing a sexual assault incident involving the son. The duo had allegedly strangled the girl, near whose house they were residing. They also hit her with a hammer. This was revealed while the Vizhinjam police were interrogating them for the murder of the old woman.

Minor girl pushed into well by man, who tried to kill her

In Madhya Pradesh village, a 10-year-old girl was thrown into the well by the accused who had tried to rape her. The girl survived by holding on to the wires of the well. The incident took place in Dudhlai village under Ichhawar police station. The accused was arrested by the police on January 16, yesterday in Amlaha.

Murdered woman's body found with stab wounds in Chandigarh

A body of a 33-year-old woman, who was a resident of Mauli village, was found in the forest areas at Mauli Jagran near the Chandigarh railway station. The deceased worked as a sanitisation worker at the Mauli Jagran police station. Her body was found with stab wounds and the forensic examination confirmation is awaited on if the woman was killed using the knife found near her body. The case has been registered under section 302 of the Indian Penal Code.

Gruesome Alwar rape case of a specially-abled girl

A specially-abled minor girl was found unconscious on a flyover in Alwar, Rajasthan on January 11. Her private parts were injured and she bled excessively. At first, she was taken to a local hospital and then transferred to a hospital in Jaipur. The police since then have been trying to decimate whether the crime has a sexual assault angle to it. In a recent update on the case, on January 16, it will be transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), by the state government.
