12-year-old Izabella Hadfield has been crowned Fylde Young Jewellery Designer of the Year, reported The Gazette. The young girl, who participated in the challenge undertaken by 400 other local young designers to be, outshone everyone with her design.

Inspired by the world of fantasy

Izabella, from Lytham St Annes Technology and Performing Arts College, UK, won the competition organised by Blackpool’s Claytons Jewellers. It was to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their St Annes shop. The competition was also held to inspire the next generation of local designers.

Izabella's design featured a six-pointed star set with a single diamond in the centre, wrapped in a ribbon of precious metal set with more diamonds. Claytons' designer later handcrafted it

Izabella chose this design because she liked the way diamonds weaved around the star and how it contrasted with the sharp straight edges of the star. She realised white gold would look best and complement the diamonds.

“I was inspired by the world of fantasy. And I hope the result is almost hypnotic. I’m delighted that my design was chosen. It looks wonderful now it has been made. It’s even more beautiful than I could have imagined.”

Graham Clayton of Claytons Jewellers said that the level of creativity in the competition took everyone by surprise. She also wished great future, full of beautiful works of art, for all those who entered the competition.

Clayton mentioned how an ample number of  entries would have been worthy winners, but the judges felt that despite some intense competition, Izabella’s design appealed to them the most. "Izabella’s inspiration was reflected in her design and it created the hypnotic effect she was hoping to achieve."

The winning piece is named 'The Anniversary Star'. Clayton believes it is the perfect way to commemorate their 30th year. Last week, the winning design was auctioned for charity as part of the St George’s Day celebrations, raising £2,000 for St George’s Festival Charities.
