In April, when a COVID-19 positive Archana Devi was taken to hospital in Meerut, her symptoms were serious. According to Times of Indiathe 45-year-old's health was consistently spiralling downward with the family holding only onto the last vestiges of hope.

Her oxygen levels were reportedly touching a low 30 percent, compounded by a steady fever. For two months, she was on oxygen support, with the added emergency of the deadly black fungus or mucormycosis that began taking over her body in June.

But Archana pulled through.

"I survived for my family," she said after her straight discharge from ICU; another rarity. There was a day when things complicated to the extent she thought "that was it" for her, but her son's voice gave her the strength to live.

India, well past its brutal second wave of COVID-19, is seeing lower numbers of national infections, which medical experts and health authorities have warned will likely boom into the third wave soon. However, the calm before the imminent storm is reminding people of success stories of recovery, inspiring in them the hopeful idea that the pandemic can be beaten.

Earlier this month, for instance, 97-year-old Jyotsna Rani Deb became the second-oldest coronavirus survivor in Assam. In May, a five-month-old baby girl fought off the virus like a champ to successfully recover. The same month, twin recoveries in Ghaziabad of a 22-day old baby and 104-year-old became motivation for many.
