Naagin Actor Pearl V Puri Remanded To 14-Day Judicial Custody In Rape Case: Reports

Pearl Puri gets bail or custody? A day after being arrested in case of alleged rape of a minor, Naagin actor Pearl V Puri was sent to 14 days of police custody on June 5. The 31-year-old is booked under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act after a girl reportedly accused him of raping her under the pretence of fame and roles.

Puri, along with five others, was arrested by Waliv police, Mumbai late Friday evening, reports said. The rape complaint against them is old, as per DSP Sanjay Patil, who said the girl and her mother had approached the police. The complainant is reportedly minor. More about the case here.

Puri's friend and colleague Karishma Tanna, however, took to social media Saturday in support of Puri, claiming he got bail. "Satyamev Jayate. Truth wins and he did win. #gotbail," she wrote.

India Today, quoting sources, reports that Vasai court has remanded Puri and the five other accused to two-week police custody.

From producer Ekta Kapoor, to actors Anita Hassanandani, Aly Goni, Krystle D'Souza and Nia Sharma, several from the Hindi television industry have expressed support for Puri, claiming he is innocent.

Kapoor in a lengthy post on Instagram, wrote Saturday, "Will I support a child molester…or a molester of any kind?

But what I witnessed from last night to now, was the absolute low in human depravity. How can humanity go to this level? How can people who are upset with each other, drag a third person into their own fight?"

She claims further that the complainant's mother told her "Pearl was not involved and it’s her husband trying to create stories to keep her child and prove that a working mother on a set cannot take care of her kid."
