Chile Congress received heavy votes in favor of same-sex marriage. This happens during the time when the upcoming government, headed by José Antonio Kast, openly opposes equal marriage rights and follows the Catholic values. This may come as a great blow when it is clear that the Chile Government opposes same-sex marriage.

In the result, it came out that the majority of the population was in favor of equal marriage rights to same-sex couple and the bill to legalise it. The bill will legalise parenting rights to same-sex couples and will serve as public support to LGBTQ+ community. This will counter the administrative situation where the Chile Government opposes same-sex marriage, as per reports.

Chile Same-Sex Marriages:

Kast has always opposed non-traditional values and often condemns LGBTQ+ rights. On the other hand, Boric supports identification and equal rights for all communities. Kast has stated earlier that he believes that heterosexual couples are better for society and his election agenda also includes subsidies for married heterosexual couples. This comes as an open invalidation of the existence of LGBTQ+ community. And it is likely that Kast's Chile Government opposes same-sex marriage bill.

This is not the first time that Kast stood in favor when Chile Government opposes same-sex marriage. Even when he was a deputy, he has opposed many progressive bills and projects. He opposed the anti-discrimination law and Civil Union Agreement. He also stood against the gender identity bill to identify trans people. These bills were passed eventually but Kast's stand remained the same.

This vote for LGBTQ+ rights serves as an open challenge when Chile government opposes same-sex marriage. The Equal Marriage Bill will supposedly pass somewhere around March. If Kast government comes in power, they will definitely oppose the bill. This vote stands as a reminder of the power that the public holds.

The equal Marriage bill will provide parenting rights to same-sex couple. This bill was first proposed by the 2017 government headed by Michelle Bachelet but it was neglected by the lawmakers. It again gained the urgent status under the Sebastian Piñeran government.

Now when the bill again faces the danger when Chile Government opposes same-sex marriage that is headed by Kast. The government under Kast will follow traditional Catholic rules and hence, this vote comes as a game changing step in the direction of LGBTQ+ rights. Chile becomes the sixth country to do so after South America, Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil, Colombia and Ecuador.
