During puberty, growing of hair is a part of secondary sexual characters. We grow underarm hair and pubic hair during puberty. Similarly, it is also natural for you to have hair on any other part of your body like around the umbilical cord area, facial hair, hair on the back, etc. Therefore, it is absolutely natural if some people have hair around their breast area. The reason why one might face a sudden difference in the growth of their body hair pattern is hormonal changes.

If you are currently going through pregnancy and encounter an abnormal hair growth, again, it is because of the hormonal changes your body is going through because of the pregnancy. You might notice the hair growth reduce or completely disappear once the gestation period is over. Hence, that is something you do not need to worry about.

Is it OK to remove breast hair?

Dr. Nivedita says that some people tweeze out the hair and they are happy with it, some prefer waxing or shaving it and all of the procedures are absolutely fine. However, if you are breastfeeding, it is not suggested to shave your breast hair. This is because shaving roughens the surface which is not very comfortable for the baby to suck on.

If your hair growth is not because of the gestation period and is permanent, the best way to get rid of it is by laser. Laser treatments are more expensive compared to other procedures but it is going to be equivalent to the cost of constantly using temporary methods such as hair removing creams and razors.

Another friendly reminder by Dr. Nivedita:

You do not have to feel ashamed or worried about your body hair because it is very normal and common. "Dont compare yourselves or your body to what you see on a pornography or films/TV" says Dr. Manokaran, "because what we see in pornography is made and artificial, they are kind od Man-made". Dr. Nivedita further compares having unrealistic body image with watching Avengers, just like children think flying out of buildings is normal, we think the flawless bodies shown in these films/ porns are normal.
