The Bollywood debut of Suhana Khan, Khushi Kapoor and Agastya Nanda is set for the year 2023 with the film The Archies. The film inspired by popular comics of the same name has been made by Zoya Akhtar and will be released on the OTT platform. The cast of the film and the makers released the first look of the film in an announcement video and poster.
The film is set in 1960s India and is bankrolled by Tiger Baby and Graphic India production houses. The shooting of the film started on April 18 and pictures from the set had gone viral all over the internet. Netflix India shared the poster of the film on May 14 in a Twitter post. They wrote, “Grab your picnic baskets and pick out your cutest outfits, we’re going to greet the Archie’s gang! Presenting the cast of THE ARCHIES, a Zoya Akhtar film.”
Zoya Akhtar will not only produce the film but will also direct it. Reema Kagti had shared the first shot of The Archies on Instagram in April. In a post, she wrote, “#Archie’s #shootstarts #TigerBaby’s first solo production #partnerincrime @zoieakhtar @Netflix (sic).” The same was shared by Farhan Akhtar on his Instagram story and sent best wishes to the team.
Suhana Khan’s Bollywood debut is much-awaited by the fans as the Shah Rukh Khan’s daughter has long been popular on social media. The star kid had opened up about being shamed by social media users for her skin colour as many trolled her for being fair enough in her complexion. Khan had said that ever since she turned 12, strangers on the internet have been shaming her for her skin colour. In a post, she shared the worst comments she received over some time and many of the trolls had called her “kaali”, a derogatory word used by Indians against people who have darker skin colour.
The Archies has been creating buzz ever since it was announced by the filmmaker Zoya Akhtar. It will be the first time that the American comics will be adapted in an Indian language film. The film will not be released in theatres and will straight go to Netflix for streaming.
