Indian cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal and choreographer Dhanashree Verma have moved to the Bombay High Court for a speedy resolution of their divorce case. The court has waived the mandatory six-month cooling-off period, allowing their mutual divorce petition to proceed faster. The Bombay High Court on Wednesday, March 19 directed the Bandra family court to finalise the couple’s divorce by March 20, as Chahal will be unavailable after March 21 due to the Indian Premier League (IPL). Both Chahal and Verma were present for the final hearing.
Dhanashree Verma & Yuzvendra Chahal Fast-Track Divorce Process: Report
Their divorce, which had been speculated for months, was officially confirmed on February 20 at the Bandra Family Court. As per the Hindu Marriage Act, couples seeking divorce by mutual consent must observe a six-month cooling-off period to allow time for possible reconciliation. However, Chahal and Verma filed a joint petition through their lawyer, Nitin Gupta, requesting an exemption. They also urged the court to expedite the decision.
Initially, the Bandra family court refused to waive the cooling-off period. Challenging this decision, the couple approached the High Court, which ultimately granted their request, allowing their divorce process to move forward without further delays.
Reports revealed that Chahal and Dhanashree had lived separately for the past 18 months. When questioned about the reason for their separation, the couple cited "compatibility issues" as the main factor. Shortly after returning from court on February 20, both Chahal and Dhanashree shared cryptic messages on Instagram.
Chahal posted, "God has protected me more times than I can count. So I can only imagine the times I’ve been rescued that I don’t even know about. Thank you, God, for always being there even when I don’t know it. Amen."
Dhanashree shared a message about faith and resilience, writing, "From stressed to blessed. Isn’t it amazing how God can turn our worries and trials into blessings? If you’re stressing about something today, know that you have a choice. You can either keep worrying or you can surrender it all to God and choose to pray about everything. There is power in having faith that God can work all things together for your good."
Speculations and Relationship Timeline
Rumours about their separation began when the couple unfollowed each other on Instagram, sparking speculation about their marriage. Despite the ongoing discussions online, neither of them publicly addressed the issue until now.
Chahal and Dhanashree married in December 2020 in an intimate ceremony in Gurugram. Their love story began during the COVID-19 pandemic when the cricketer approached Dhanashree for dance lessons, eventually leading to a relationship.
