Akanksha Dubey, a well-known Bhojpuri actor, was discovered dead inside a hotel room on Sunday in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. The body was taken for a post-mortem by the police, and authorities believe the death was a suicide. A segment of Dubey's Instagram Live, which she recorded just hours before she passed away, has also gone viral on social media.
The 25-year-old actor was discovered with a piece of fabric hanging from the fan, but no suicide note has yet been found. The hotel workers said that the police were contacted right away. Dubey had been staying at the hotel in Sarnath for a movie shoot, according to police sources. The police have started an inquiry into the case and are awaiting the results of the post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of the death. The family has been informed, according to the police.
On Monday, March 27, an FIR was registered against Bhojpuri singer Samar Singh and his brother Sanjay Singh for abetment to suicide. Sarnath police station SHO Dharmpal Singh said the case was registered on the basis of a complaint by the late actor's mother, Madhu Dubey.
Video from Dubey's Instagram Live session earlier on Saturday had gone viral on social media. Many people now claim that the actor was subjected to "mental torture" when she was spotted sobbing uncontrollably on the livestream without speaking.
