Fans have followed the story of nurse practitioner Mel Monroe, who relocated to Virgin River from Los Angeles after the passing of her husband, for the last three seasons of the drama, which is based on the romance novel series by New York Times bestselling author Robyn Carr.

"Despite not knowing whether her baby belongs to her deceased husband, Mark, or Jack, Mel has a sense of optimism. For years she yearned to be a mother, and her dream is one step closer to reality," the synopsis on Netflix reads.
After season three, Ricky (Grayson Gurnsey) and Lizzie (Sarah Dugdale) appeared to have split up, with Lizzie referring to her affections for him in the past tense and Ricky preparing to leave Virgin River to pursue his ambition of joining the marines. Although Lizzie is riding in a boat with someone else in the trailer, the public photographs show them having a nice time at the fair. From the opposite side of the trailer's bar, Ricky and Lizzie exchange glances. Maybe they reconnect at the fairground.
It ">appears that Jack (Martin Henderson) and Mel will go through a lot of hardships again. Jack, who just learned Mel is expecting, says he doesn't want to know the father because he fears Mark, who passed away, won't treat the child with the same love. Then, to top it all off, Jack's father shows up in town, making him doubt his parenting skills and resort back to drinking. Mel learns that Mark's family is attempting to obtain custody of their two surviving embryos through the court system (one of which Mel used to try and become pregnant at the end of the last season).
