Maadathy talks about a fictional story of an adolescent girl from the Puthirai Vannar community in Tamil Nadu. The film depicts the incidents wherein a community is discriminated against to the point where they are deemed unfit.

The one-and-half hour movie touches upon social issues like gender and caste identity, religious beliefs and violence. The movie follows the tagline of, "Nobodies do not have Gods; they are Gods". The film has been recognised and has been critically acclaimed on various platforms. It has also been presented on the Busan International Film Festival, Kolkata International Film Festival and Latin American FICCI 60 among others.

The awards list of the Maadathy has FIPRESCI Jury Award, Golden Kailasha for Best Film, Best Actress and Best Cinematography Awards at Aurangabad International Film Festival, 2020. It stars actors like Leena Manimekalai, Rafiq Ismail and Yavanika Sriram. The music in the film is given by Karthik Raja.

Leena Manimekalai in an interview said that the idea of the movie struck her when she read an article that noted that it is the Puthirai Vannar community - the last in the ladder of the caste system, the Dalits among Dalits, the “unseeable”. She read that they the ones who are perpetually on the move and are displaced because they are unable to protect their women.

Manimekalai described this and said, " It is terrible to know that their plight continues to this date."

She further added, "My question is how long are we going to allow this injustice to continue? This question led me to the film."
