"Universe does help those who surrender to it with belief. What was a mirage, is now clarity. A dream of a pious character never explored is now a reality," Desai tweeted. Ranaut on Instagram, sharing a poster of the film, wrote she was "glad to be on board for the title role with this immensely talented team of artists."

Kangana Ranaut As Sita: "Essence" Of Indian Woman, Say Producers

Confirmation for Ranaut joining the cast of Desai's film comes following reports of actor Kareena Kapoor Khan's involvement in the project. Alleged rumours of Khan asking for a fee to the tune of Rs 12 crore had sparked controversy with right-wing groups threatening action over her casting. More here.

Insiders on the film had reportedly refuted rumours of Khan's association with the venture. Though she didn't issue a statement on the matter, the 40-year-old in a recent interview with The Guardian addressed the gender pay gap in the industry saying, "I make it quite clear what I want and I think that respect should be given."

A representative of SS Studio, the production house backing the film, was quoted saying, "As a woman, I couldn’t be happier in welcoming Ms Kangana Ranaut on board our VFX magnum opus... Kangana symbolises the spirit and essence of the Indian woman – fearless, daunting and daring."

Thalaivii, biopic on late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, is Ranaut's latest release which opened in theatres September 10. She has wrapped up shoot for Dhakad and is currently filming for Tejas.
