The Empire release: Kunal Kapoor starrer The Empire will be having an OTT release soon. The trailer dropped two weeks back and has been creating a buzz ever since. Helmed by Mitakshara Kumar, the series also stars Shabana Azmi and Drashti Dhami in prominent roles.

All about The Empire
The series is based on Alex Rutherford's novel Empire of the Moghul. It focuses on the rise and fall of the Mughal Empire through generations starting from Babur to Aurangzeb. The story, therefore, spans over 200 years. The Empire covers 25 years of his life and starts his campaign for the conquest of North India. Season 1 of the show is set in the late 15th and 16th centuries. It presents Babur's early struggles in and around his kingdom Samarkand, Uzbekistan before he moved South-East towards Kabul and the Delhi Sultanate.
Shabana Azmi opens up about her role
Shabana Azmi plays the role of Babur's grandmother Aisan Daulat Begum. Talking to India Today at a press conference, Azmi said that she always wanted to play a historical character. "Aisan Daulat Begum is such an interesting woman," she said. The Kaali Khuhi actor further added that the "kingmaker" is always a man but here it is a woman who is handling all the machinations of the empire.
She also said that all the women in the show are very strong and we need more such characters. Above all, period dramas are based on love stories but in this case it's not so. The story is about the strong relationship a brother and his sister share.

The Empire releases on Friday, Aug 27 on Disney+Hotstar at 12 a.m IST. Taking to their Twitter handle, the streaming giant said, "Getting into Shaybani's skin. Hotstar Specials The Empire, all episodes streaming August 27."
