Surekha Sikri passes away: Veteran actor and National Award winning actor Surekha Sirki passed away due to cardia arrest in Mumbai. She was 75. The news of Sikri’s passing was shared by her manager. Sikri had been dealing with health complications for the past few years.
“Three-time national award winning actress, Surekha Sikri has passed away following a cardiac arrest earlier this morning at the age of 75,” the actor’s manager said, further adding that she was suffering from complications arising from a second brain stroke. during her last moments the actor was surrounded by her family and caregivers. “The family asks for privacy at this time. Om Sai Ram,” the manager further noted.
A graduate from National School of Drama, Sikri won three National Awards in her lifetime for her work as an actor. The last film for which she won the honour was the 2018 superhit film Badhai Ho, featuring Ayushmann Khurrana, Neena Gupta, Sanya Malhotra and Gajraj Rao. Sikri was 74 then.
“It feels very good. I am very excited about it. I am so thankful. It feels really really good, I am so happy that the film has won,” the actor had said after winning the award. She also added that she did not expect to win. “I am very happy for the whole team and everyone who worked really hard for this. Who was Surekha Sikri?
Sikri was the daughter or an Air Force officer. Her mother used to work as a teacher. Apart from Badhai Ho the actor won National Awards in the Best Supporting Actress category for her films Tamas (1988) and Mammo (1995). The actor garnered immense popularity for her portrayal of Kalyani Devi in the hit television serial Balika Vadhu, which made her a household name.
She was married to Hemant Rege, who passes away in 2009 due to cardiac arrest. Surekha Sikri is survived by her son Rahul Sikri.
