Bollywood actress Karisma Kapoor’s ex-husband, Sunjay Kapur, has passed away at the age of 53. He reportedly suffered a heart attack on Thursday. Sunjay is survived by his wife Priya Sachdev and children Samaira, Kiaan, and Azarias.
Sunjay Kapur was the Chairman and Non-Executive Director of Sona BLW Precision Forgings Ltd (Sona Comstar), a leading auto components manufacturer. According to various reports, the industrialist collapsed while playing polo on June 12.
Kapur assumed the role of managing director of Gurugram-based Sona Comstar in 2015 after his father's passing and later became chairman. The company supplies critical parts, including electric vehicle (EV) traction motors and starter motors.
Sunjay Kapur Dies Of Heart Attack
Confirming the news of his demise, Sona Comstar issued an official statement:
“It is with profound sorrow that we announce the untimely passing of Sunjay J Kapur, Chairman and Non-Executive Director of Sona Comstar, following a sudden heart attack in England, UK, on 12th June 2025, at the age of 53.”
“A visionary leader, Kapur played a pivotal role in shaping Sona Comstar into a global mobility technology company built on innovation, sustainability, and purpose. His passion, foresight, and relentless commitment to excellence inspired everyone who had the privilege of working with him.”
“Beyond his professional accomplishments, Kapur was a devoted father, a mentor to many, and a tireless advocate for India’s manufacturing and mobility sectors. His loss is deeply felt across the industry and within the Sona Parivar,” the statement added.
Just hours before his passing, Kapur had posted on X about the Air India crash in Ahmedabad. “Terrible news of the tragic Air India crash in Ahmedabad. My thoughts and prayers are with all the families affected. May they find strength in this difficult hour,” he wrote.
His sudden death has sent shockwaves across the automotive and business communities.
Following the news, Karisma Kapoor’s close friends and family were seen supporting her. Her sister Kareena Kapoor Khan, brother-in-law Saif Ali Khan, and friends Malaika Arora and Amrita Arora were seen visiting Karisma’s Mumbai residence in the middle of the night. Amrita’s husband, Shakeel Ladak, also accompanied them.

On June 9, Sunjay took to X (formerly Twitter) to share a note with the hashtag #MondayMotivation. The note read:
“Your time on Earth is limited. Leave the ‘what ifs’ to the philosophers and instead dive headfirst into the ‘why nots’.”
Sharing the quote, he captioned it: “Progress demands bold choices, not perfect conditions.”
