Who Is Simran Mangeshkar? The 'Gundi' Golu Of Sitaare Zameen Par

Aamir Khan's Sitaare Zameen Par has been released in the theatres on June 20. The film, a spiritual sequel to Taare Zameen Par, has been receiving rave reviews from the audience.

Apart from having Aamir Khan and Genelia D'Souza in lead roles, this film also has ten new debutants who are playing a team of basketballers with Down syndrome, preparing for a tournament. Among them is 27-year-old Simran Mangeshkar, who essays the role of 'Gundi' Golu Khan, and has been earning praises for her character in the film.

The Journey from Simran to Golu Khan

Simran Mangeshkar was born on 23rd May and lives in Mumbai. She revealed that since her childhood, she has never thought of becoming an actor, but found a chance to be one with Sitaare Zameen Par. She said in a video by Aamir Khan Talkies,Bachpan se maine yeh nahi socha ki main actor banu. Aaj mauka hai dastoor bhi hai, toh mein ban gayi.” 

Recalling the day she auditioned for her role in Aamir Khan’s upcoming movie, Simran shared that she performed a famous scene from Gully Boy featuring Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh. It was the fight sequence between Alia and Ranveer's characters in the film, which Simran enacted at the time of her audition.

Mangeshkar reenacted the famous dialogue, “Mere boyfriend se gulu gulu karegi toh dhoptungi na usko.”

After giving her auditions, Simran revealed that she got selected in one shot for her character, Golu Khan. In her words, “Ek shot mein phone karke bola ki ‘ma’am she is just selected."

Her Biggest Dream

Simran’s mother, Vrushali Vileen Mangeshkar, shared how her daughter's on-screen character is totally opposite to her real life. She mentioned that Simran is a very soft-spoken and disciplined girl.

Vrushali shared that her daughter had a dream where she was going to an award show and giving a speech. She also mentioned that Simran saw herself receiving an award in her dream. 

So, when the rising star was asked about the speech that she has been prepping for some time now, Simran said, “All the cast of the entire Sitaare Zameen Par, thank you very much, guys. Yeh award dedicated to Sitaare Zameen Par rocks!”
