The film starring Nani, Sai Pallavi and Krithi Shyam Singha Roy talks about the regressive Devadasi system prevalent in Bengal. Shyam Singha Roy set in Kolkata is directed by Rahul Sankrityan and has two different stories across two different eras.

Devadasi system was a regressive system where women were considered sex slaves. In one time line of the film the actor Nani is seen fighting the rich and influential people to abolish this practice, in the parallel plot he can be seen romancing Krithi Shetty. The film is reportedly about reincarnation. It was announced in February 2020. The principal photography commenced in December 2020. The film also stars Madonna Sebastian, Jisshu Sengupta, Murali Sharma and Rahul Ravindran. The filming took place in Hyderabad and Kolkata.
The makers of the film released the poster and the motion poster today, October 14.
Sai Pallavi and Nani had worked together in Middle Class Abbayi. Pallavi also shared the teaser on Twitter. Pallavi made her her Telugu debut playing the role Bhanumati in the 2017 romantic film Fidaa.
Kirthi Shetty who is also part of the cast made her acting debut with the Telegu film Uppena and also appeared in Hindi film Super 30. She also shared the poster of the film on twitter.
