Actor Payel Sarkar Joins BJP Ahead Of West Bengal Elections

Sarkar's decision to join the party comes right ahead of the assembly elections in West Bengal. The dates for the election are yet to be announced.

Payel Sarkar joins BJP
Payel Sarkar joins BJP: Bengali actor Payel Sarkar joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Kolkata on Thursday. The actor was inducted into the party in presence of BJP's state party chief Dilip Ghosh and national president JP Nadda.

Sarkar's decision to join the BJP came on the same day cricketer Manoj Tiwary and three Bengali film stars joined the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) in presence of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The dates for the upcoming legislative assembly elections are yet to be announced.

Popular Bengali actor Yash Dasgupta also joined the BJP on Wednesday.

Who is Payel Sarkar?

Payal Sarkar, one of the leading actors of Tollywood, made her acting debut with the Bengali film Shudhu Tumi in 2004. She has also worked in several of filmmaker Anurag Basu's Hindi serials such as Love Story, Waqt and Ladies Special. Some of her best-known works include films like Prem Amar (2009), Bawali Unlimited (2012), Chotushkone (2014) and the 2016 Bengali crime thriller Eagoler Chokh. In 2010, she won the Anandlok Award for Best Actress for the film Le Chakka.

Besides these, the actor has also appeared in Bollywood comedy Guddu Ki Gun in 2015 and has recently worked in Chilli 3 and Hechhi.
