According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Batgirl film will be directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilal Fallah who had directed the 2020 grosser Bad Boys for Life. The script for the same will be given by Christina Hodson. She has also delivered scripts for Bumblebee and Birds of Prey and The Flash. The movie will be produced by Kristin Burr.

The film has been in development since 2017 when Joss Whedon was supposed to write its script. He backed down in the year 2018 stating that he couldn’t get the story right. Later, Hodson was hired to fill his shoes and provide the script for the DC feature.

The character of Batgirl was first introduced in 1961 in the comics with a secret identity of Betty Kane. Later in 1967, the character was revamped as the daughter of Gotham Commissioner, James Gordon, Barbra Gordon since the television executives demanded more female viewership for the Batman series.

The female superhero was the last scene in live-action in the 1997 movie Batman & Robin played by Alicia Silverstone. The studios are continuously trying to include more women-centric stories with the success of movies such as Wonder Woman and Captain Marvel.

With Whedon leaving the project, there is very little known about the storyline or any specifics of the story. Even without the specifics, Batgirl remains to be highly anticipated for her first solo appearance.

El Arbi and Fallah have also worked on Disney+ MCU series Ms. Marvel and in addition to that, with the brilliant skills of Hodson, we may expect a great experience of the female superhero. The movie will be set to release on HBO Max.
