Movies That Were Rejected By Various Actors But Later Proved To Be Blockbusters.

There are many movies that were rejected by various actors but later proved to be blockbusters. Bollywood has produced a slew of blockbuster hits over the last few decades that have earned a special place in our hearts.  They are a  few classic Bollywood films that we can watch at any time of day or night, with no reservations. While the entire country now appears to have a soft spot for films like these, some of Bollywood’s most well-known stars previously rejected them.
Here’s a rundown of all the Bollywood blockbusters that were initially turned down by several major actors.

1. Dil To Pagal Hai

This 1997 hit film depicted what a dreamy love story looks like and elicited empathy for a girl who was friend-zoned by a boy she loved. It was eventually discovered that Karisma Kapoor was not the first choice for the role of Nisha. Juhi Chawla and Kajol were approached first, and it was only after they declined that Karisma was cast in the film.

2. Munnabhai M.B.B.S

Shah Rukh Khan was the first to be offered the iconic film that introduced us all to the concept of ‘Jaadu ki jhappi.’ Actresses like Aishwarya Rai, Tabu, and even Rani Mukherjee turned down the role of the female protagonist latest picked by Gracy Singh.

3. Sanju

Aamir Khan and Rajkumar Hirani is one of the most successful actor-director pairs of Bollywood.  The actor was eager to work with Hirani on ‘Sanju’ after the success of ‘3 Idiots’ and ‘PK.’ But eventually, he turned it down. He was supposed to be cast as Sanjay Dutt’s father, Sunil Dutt, by the director. But  Aamir Khan wanted to play Ranbir Kapoor’s titular role. 

4. Dil Dhadakne Do

Ranbir Kapoor dropped ‘Dil Dhadakne Do,’ a Zoya Akhtar film about family politics, skirmishes and stereotypes aboard a cruise. Priyanka Chopra’s role was first offered to Kareena Kapoor Khan, Ranveer Singh’s role to Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma’s role to Deepika Padukone, and Shefali Shah’s role to Raveena Tandon. Due to some reasons all these actors turned down from the role.

5. Veer-Zaara

This movie that made hundreds of people cry and enthralled audiences with Shah Rukh Khan and Preity Zinta’s on-screen chemistry was originally offered to Kajol and Ajay Devgn. After the couple turned down the offer, SRK and Preity were approached to star in this film, and a masterpiece was created.

6. Dil Chahta Hai

Did you know that Farhan Akhtar wanted Hrithik Roshan to star in his film “Dil Chahta Hai”? He wanted  Akshaye Khanna as Akash, Hrithik Roshan as Sameer, and Abhishek Bachchan as Siddharth.  However, the film was made with casts that were not on his wish list but the movie did wonders and is still one of the favorite movies of youngsters.  Hrithik Roshan is said to have dropped out of the project for undisclosed reasons.

7. Gully Boy

‘Gully Boy,’ directed by Zoya Akhtar, is said to have offered Ranbir Kapoor a role. While Ranveer Singh was confirmed to play the lead role, Ranbir turned down the offer because he didn’t want to play a secondary role to the ‘Padmavat’ actor.

8. Queen

Did you know, Queen was first offered to Kareena Kapoor Khan?  Kareena admitted in a 2019 interview on ‘Koffee with Karan’ that she passed on the project because she didn’t think the role was right for her. When asked if she had any regrets about declining the film, she said she didn’t because she doesn’t look back. ‘Queen’ went on to be one of Kangana’s most successful films, as well as a career boost. For her outstanding performance, she was also awarded the National Award.
