Taapsee Pannu Best Films: The woman who redefined leading ladies in Bollywood

Baby

This film was Pannu's coming to limelight moment. Her short screen time in the 2015 film left an indelible impression on the audience. She plays the role of Shabana Khan and her role was seven-minutes long in the film. She and Kumar's character Ajay lead an operation at Kathmandu in Nepal to catch hold of a smuggler. She lures the antagonist to the hotel room and he finds out about their real identity. Without waiting for her partner to come and diffuse the situation, Khan takes the lead and overpowers the antagonist, thanks to her martial art skills. When Ajay arrives to rescue her, she already has the man pinned to the ground. Pannu's character was so popular that it garnered a spin-off film, Naam Shabana.

Mulk

In this Anubhav Sinha directorial, Pannu plays the role of a Hindu woman fighting for the rights of her Muslim father-in-law, played by Rishi Kapoor. This is a courtroom drama that revolves around a Muslim family's struggle to prove their innocence when a member of the clan takes part in a terrorist attack and dies in the ensuing encounter. Mulk questioned our perception of religion, religious identity and faith. While Pannu's character wasn't central to the story, she delivers a powerful monologue towards the climax, which tells us why she must have signed up this film in the first place.

This 2016 film created tremors in the hearts of the viewers, delivering a strong statement, "No means no." This court drama, directed by Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury, unravels the poor state of justice and law system in the country when it comes to sexual harassment, assault and women security. The film shows the flinching reality of women and the entire debate around consent, especially when it comes to sexual intercourse. Pink shed light on how sexual harassment cases become harassment for the survivor rather than the perpetrator. Apart from Pannu, the film also featured Kirti Kulhari, Andrea Tariang and Amitabh Bachchan.
