In an interview, Lara Dutta said that portraying Indira Gandhi was a big responsibility because she is an iconic figure. There was a lot of homework and research that went behind it but she called it a lifetime opportunity.
The film also deals with with a hijack situation that happened during her stint as the Prime Minister. She was extremely centred and so portraying her in that form was important, she said.
