Singer Kanika Kapoor tested positive for COVID-19 after returning from London in March 2020. Kapoor was reportedly spotted at a high profile event soon after she was in India. She was highly criticised for not following isolation protocols and was accused of contracting and spreading coronavirus due to her carelessness.

Being one of the first celebrities to test positive, Kanika Kapoor and her family had to endure immense scrutiny from media and social media after her diagnosis.

The singer has now opened up about her experience with the virus and how the public’s reaction took a toll on her. “It was so heavy on me that I even forgot that I have the virus and I am sick." Kapoor added that all the hate she received was shocking for her, and she had to go through a lot of judgment and hatred "for something I didn’t really do. That was really tough for me.”

In a recent interview with The Indian Express, Kapoor also talked about how she went off social media for some time because the hate coming her way was just too much. “I went off social media for some time because I couldn’t cope with it," she said.

At a time where everyone was paranoid to the fullest, Kapoor and her family had to recover from the virus but also from the public’s hate and what it had done to their mental health. On this issue, she revealed that she went through counselling to get out of that bad place. “It took me a year to get out of it mentally. I had to take counselling. It was not easy, but of course, life goes on,” the singer said.

Kapoor was also one of the most googled Indians at that point of times, after her contraction with the virus. At one point, even her kids received death threats from the public and she was told that her career was over.
