Ballerina: John Wick Spinoff Starring Ana De Armas Sets Release Date

The action drama John Wick is expanding its universe with the release of the spin-off film Ballerina. Ana De Armas, Catalina Sandino Moreno Gabriel Byrne, the late Lance Reddick, Norman Reedus, Anjelica Huston, Ian McShane, and Keanu Reeves star in the film Ballerina.

According to Variety, a US-based media outlet, the franchise already has four chapters that have received worldwide acclaim. The most recent film in the Keanu Reeves franchise, John Wick: Chapter 4, grossed an impressive 250 million dollars.

As the world grows fond of John Wick, Lionsgate will release its highly anticipated spin-off on June 7, 2024. As Lionsgate Picture Group chair Joe Drake hinted, the overwhelming response to the recent John Wick film has also opened the door for Chapter 5.

According to the most recent reports, Keanu Reeves will play John Wick in the spinoff Ballerina, alongside Ana de Armas. The plot's official gist revolves around expanding the John Wick universe by starring Ana De Armas as a trained assassin alongside Keanu.

The intriguing part is that he will have a juicy role to play in the trajectory of this new leading character in the franchise, rather than just a cameo for legacy value.

Ballerina was directed by Len Wiseman and written by Shay Hatten. Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee, and Chad Stahelski, who directed all four John Wick films, produced it. According to Giant Freakin Robot, Ballerina co-writer Shay Hatten has revealed that Keanu Reeves will play John Wick in the film, and it will be more than just a cameo. Hatten said that the got him to be in it for a "good chunk". Hatten went on to say that he is a real character, not just a "one-piece cameo".

Meanwhile, Shay Hatten confirmed the plot of the film would take place between the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum and John Wick: Chapter 4. Ana De Armas, Anjelica Huston, Lance Reddick, Gabriel Byrne, Norman Reedus, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Ian McShane, and Keanu Reeves are among the cast members.
