Russo Brothers Announced Indian Version Of 'Citadel', Details Inside

The producer-director Russo Brothers officially announced the Indian installment of the Citadel universe. It also hinted at when the local Original spy series will start filming. 

The Russo Brothers shared on Instagram a photo of actor Varun Dhawan, who plays the protagonist in the project. The producers captioned the post, "We are thrilled to officially announce that we will be bringing you the Indian installment of the Citadel universe. The local Original spy series will start filming in January 2023."

Indian Version Of Citadel Plot

Indian version of Citadel is an adaptation of the American original Citadel starring Priyanka Chopra and Richard Madden. It is an original story, a suspenseful spy thriller. Although this series will be more of a spin-off, that tells the story of spies in India. The show will take place in two timelines, the beginning, and end of the 1990s. The series with action-packed sequences also promises a lot of emotional sides to it. Varun Dhawan and Samantha Ruth Prabhu will share the screen for the first time and play the role of spies. This will also be Dhawan's OTT debut. Raj and Krishna DK will direct the series. 

Raj and DK have already begun the pre-production, location search, and action design phases. Dhawan and Prabhu have already started attending workshops to prepare for the shoot, as per reports. However, they were waiting for Dhawan to finish off his project Bhediya, and start filming by the beginning of December. 

Before entering the ambitious world of Citadel India, the American Citadel spy series had a connection with India. The series makers have described it as a “multi-layered global franchise with interconnected local language productions from India, Italy, and Mexico.” Citadel will premiere on Amazon Prime in late 2023.

On the work front, this is Dhawan’s first and Prabhu’s second collaboration with Nidimoru and DK. Prabhu earlier worked together on The Family Man 2. 

Dhawan was last seen in Jug Jugg Jeeyo and the horror-comedy Bhediya. Samantha Prabhu’s Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kaadhal opposite Vijay Sethupathi and Nayanthara and next will be soon seen in the mythological film Shakunthalam.
