Eternals’ cast and characters

The new movie stars an ensemble cast including Gemma Chan, Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, Lia McHugh, Brian Tyree Henry, Lauren Ridloff, Barry Keoghan, Don Lee, Gil Birmingham, Harish Patel, Kit Harington, Salma Hayek, and Angelina Jolie.

We will see a group of superheroes with superhuman abilities. Salma Hayek’s Ajak is a wise and spiritual leader of the group. Angelina Jolie is cast as the fierce warrior Thena. Kumail Nanjiani is seen as Kingo, the one with cosmic powers who lives among humans and Gemma Chan’s Sersi among others.

Plot

The teaser trailer gives a reference to Captain Rogers, Iron Man and the Avengers thus we know that the story is set after the events of Avengers: Endgame. The immortal alien race created by the Celestials comes forward to protect and help mankind.

It is set thousands of years ago when Eternals come to earth and help ancient humans to establish civilisations and societies, in a fictional world (of course). They lead a secret life among humans without any interference in the human world. They come back to protect the life on earth from their ancient enemies, Deviants.

The movie also includes a female-led cast in which the male comic character of Ajak is seen to be played by Salma Hayek. It will be the first MCU movie to display a same-sex physical intimacy and an openly gay couple.

More on the teaser

The trailer opens with a scene with the coming of Eternals on earth where they help humans to establish civilisation. The cinematography seems eye-catching giving a supernatural treat to the audience. The teaser is 2:07 minutes long, giving us ample information as to what can be expected out of the feature.

A lot of mythological and historical reference is expected to be found in the movie since the teaser displays the start of a civilisation where we find humans bowing to the Eternals as if they were gods. In all, the new Marvel feature seems interesting and engaging in its first appearance.
