Fahadh Faasil Starrer, Malik To Get An OTT Release

Malik: Malayalam film producer, Anto Joseph has now confirmed that his upcoming films, Malik and Cold Case will most likely get an OTT release.

Joseph issued a letter in which he explained the reason why he decided to skip theatrical release. He said that his film Malik was going to be released in theatres, alongside Mohanlal’s Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham on May 13. This was after the Kerala government allowed 50 per cent occupancy in theatres. Other states such as Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka had theatres functioning at 100 per cent occupancy at that time.

However, all theatres had to shut down again as the second wave of the pandemic intensified. “These films will only recover their production costs only if 100 per cent occupancy is allowed. Since there is no clarity on when the theatres will reopen and given the existing economic hurdles, I’m trying for an OTT release for these films,” said Anto.

Malik OTT release

The producer didn't make any revelation regarding the OTT platforms on which his films will be released. Many are speculating that Amazon Prime Video would most likely get the rights to both the films.

What is the film all about?

The film, Malik is a political crime drama which will tell us the story of Sulaiman Malik, a young man who goes on to fight against corruption in the police and political world. Actor Fahadh Faasil plays the titular role. Other actors who are a part of the film are Nimisha Sajayan, Joju George, Dileesh Pothan and Vinay Forrt.

The film is an expensive one, as it has been made on a budget of 25 crore rupees. It marks the third collaboration of director Mahesh Narayanan and Fahadh Faasil.

The film's trailer was released in March this year, and garnered a positive response. It was successful in throwing light on the atrocities committed against people belonging to minority communities.
